What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

3 of our schools and hundreds of students and their families, as well as the entire community, have been devastated by the earthquake in Badakhshan province in northeastern Afghanistan. Because of Badakhshan's remoteness, we are still receiving new information regarding the situation and will be updating as needed.

How will this project solve this problem?

By utilizing long standing community relationships, AAE will work to define the needs of students, their families, and the community to best help them rebuild their lives in a sustainable, lasting way. Badakhshan needs the support of local partners such as AAE to focus on long term recovery.

Potential Long Term Impact

Badakhshan is an impoverished province of Afghanistan and winter is soon approaching. Without fast action, the poor will be left without housing throughout a harsh winter. They are in need of long-term recovery that will last far beyond when the large aid organizations leave. We will be posting regular updates about how the funds are being used once we determine how they can best be used to support earthquake victims.
