Life is a story. The best chapters are those with happy endings. The adventure-filled pages where you stepped up and became a better human being. This aluminum bangle made from unexploded ordnance (UXO)(AKA Land Mines) leftover from the Vietnam War writes a page that reads something like, “I knew the clearing landmines was difficult but doable. I knew I could do more, so I did.”
Standard size is small. A dremel to cut the bangle (and soften the edges) allowed me to open it up, slip it on, and squeeze it closed.
First off- the shockingly simple yet potent verbiage on the packaging is impressive in a great way. It leaves no subtlety as to the former explosive you hold in your hands. Its beautiful, light and generates a very unique tone when bumped against a solid object- or falls on a granite countertop.
Now- to business. The standard size is small, it measures 2.5" wide as described in the details..attempting to make my hand as narrow as possible- my hand is still just under 3.75" wide= bangle won't fit. I will attach this to the backpack that goes everywhere with me and hopefully, it will be a conversation starter.
Taking the website measurements i thought it would fit but it now hangs off my mirror. May order the larger one.
Ordered the standard size, but the standard they used must have been for a young teen, or small female. I don't have very big hands, usually medium in most gloves and occasionally large depending on the brand. So I was pretty shocked and disappointed to see that I couldn't get this bangle past my knuckles, tucking my hand as much as I could. I had initially feared it might end up being TOO big when I ordered it, I clearly feared wrong. There is absolutely no way you are getting this on if you have hands that could be considered even close to big. I'm still glad I was able to support the cause, but what a shame the sizing is.
After typing this out, I gave it another go, and after some serious effort, contortions of the hand, sweat, and significant pain, I managed to force it on. Not looking forward to getting it back off though, but if worse comes to worst... at least it's aluminum.
I can think of no more meaningful piece of jewelry to wear in today's world than this reminder that wars seem to be ever-present and, more importantly, that their terrible refuse can become a thing of beauty.
Whomever devised and designed this article deserves an award.
I had purchased several in the past for myself, friends and as gifts.
Now that the quintessential message has been put into words and added to the bangle I wish to order more and have requested this.
Finally, these bangles are musical.
The metal must be quite dense to ring so purely when it strikes another object. I can hardly wait for the sound of my new order (when I can receive it) striking against the existing bangle I wear, always.
Finally, to have been able to wear this gesture to my commitment to peace, for several years now, is an honor I embrace wholeheartedly.
Thank you so much for making this possible.
